When Is the Right Time to Consider a Fuel Monitoring System for Commercial Vehicles?

Fuel efficiency is a major issue for those who operate commercial vehicles. Inefficient fuel usage can have a negative influence on a company’s competitiveness and productivity, as well as its bottom line. This is why fuel monitoring is critical for every company.

Reduced fuel consumption can significantly impact a company’s bottom line, whether fuel costs make up 5% or 30% of total expenditures. So, how do businesses know when the time is right to implement a fuel monitoring system?

Below, we list a few signs that indicate that it’s time to implement a fuel monitoring system.

You Have Unaccounted Fuel Loss

A fuel management system can track how much fuel is used and when it is used. You can use this information to find security issues in your fleet and fix them. In addition, fuel monitoring systems installed across your fleet can provide precise fuel consumption statistics for your company vehicles.

Your Fuel Reporting Is Excessively Time-Consuming

A fuel monitoring system can create reports detailing the number of miles driven and the fuel used by the fleet, allowing the user to determine the cost per mile quickly, the mileage achieved, and the performance levels. The fuel monitoring device will also record the car’s gas per mile driven. Keeping track of how much gas each vehicle in your fleet uses every week or month is a great way to see which ones are guzzling more gas than they should. A fuel monitoring system allows error-free remote access to records, data storage, and report monitoring via the cloud.

You Want to Secure Your Fuel from Unwanted Theft

Fuel monitoring reports enable management to determine where and when fuel theft occurred quickly. You can also generate fuel reports at the push of a button to determine fuel losses and short fills, which is nearly impossible to perform in a manual tracking system.

You Want to Validate Drivers and Vehicles

You can avoid cross-fuel contamination with vehicle identification technology, which also identifies vehicles and other pieces of equipment. To validate, just place the nozzle or dispenser into the fill pipe. That settles the matter. The driver can verify his identity with a personal identification number (PIN) or other access media, while the vehicle is verified by inserting the nozzle into the fill pipe.
